This video clearly illustrates how heated or cooled air can be lost through gaps and cracks in structures that have not been properly air sealed. On this video, you'll see that powder has been applied on the basement floor next to the exterior wall of the house. Then a stream of air is directed at the exterior wall to demonstrate how conditioned air would escape in and around the sill plate. You can see the powder exit the home on the outside foundation under the sheathing which has not been air sealed. GREAT STUFF™ Insulating Foam Sealant is then applied under the exterior siding. Not only will this help prevent the loss of heated and cooled air to save energy costs, it will also help keep pests out.
